Galestown’s History

Welcome to Galestown, Maryland! Our small, incorporated community in Dorchester County boasts a fascinating history connected to Gales Creek and the old Galestown Millpond. Once part of the "Harpers Delight" land deed (1714) and later named for an early family, Galestown was originally Nanticoke Indian Territory. An 1887 business directory listed a flourmill here, though it was gone by 1926. Our historic Wheatley's Methodist Episcopal Church remains an active part of our community.

Historical informational plaque about the Galestown Grain Mill, established in 1924, describing its history, ownership, and operation timeline with an illustration of two crossed keys at the bottom.
