Town Government

The town is governed by a Town Commission, whose members are elected by Galestown residents to two-year terms each September. The current Commission members are:

Their terms expire in 2027.

  • Karen Coffman- Mayor

    Karen is a retired senior retail manager with a strong background in accounting and business management. She has lived in Galestown with her family for over twelve years and is proud to call the town home.

    Karen has been an active part of the town’s civic life, with a focus on promoting fiscal transparency and open government. She is certified under the Maryland Open Meetings Act and is committed to keeping local government accountable and accessible.

    Her vision includes making Galestown’s budget and spending records available online and encouraging community input in shaping future budgets. Karen believes that increased transparency and resident involvement will help Galestown continue to grow as a strong, connected community.

  • David Murphy- Commissioner

    David is the owner and operator of Stumps Plus, a local stump grinding company, and has been a proud resident of Galestown for the past 17 years. With a strong commitment to community service, David previously served one term as mayor on the town council. He remains active in town meetings and recently assisted with cleanup efforts following the tornado, demonstrating his hands-on approach to helping Galestown recover and thrive.

    Encouraged by fellow residents to run for commissioner, David is passionate about doing what’s right for the town. He brings a practical mindset and a focus on real-world solutions to address the concerns of Galestown’s citizens.

  • Allison White- Commissioner

    Allison is a dedicated member of the Galestown community and a passionate advocate for its future. As an antique dealer working in her family-owned business—founded by her mother 15 years ago—Allison brings a strong sense of tradition, hard work, and local pride to everything she does. A resident of Galestown for the past three years, she has actively contributed to the town’s well-being, from cleaning the roads to participating in town meetings. Allison is running for commissioner to help keep Galestown safe, affordable, and vibrant for all residents. Her priorities include protecting the environment, supporting community well-being, and offering practical solutions to the town’s challenges.
